JYBA Study Skills Program
The JYBA is pleased to announce the launch of a comprehensive study skills program for players in the 8th through 12th grades.  The program was another key area of improvement identified during the strategic planning process.  The program is conducted by licensed teachers who the JYBA engaged and includes many different strategies to improve: study skills, note taking, time management, organization, reading strategies and ultimately, academic self confidence.  Walt Stanislawski, President of the JYBA, said, "The study skills program is another intentional effort to emphasize, develop and support the student in the student-athlete equation.  Our hope is that the players who partake in the program not only learn skills that will help them while they are here at Jackson but also help them to handle the demanding work loads at the college level and give them efficient learning tools that will serve them for the rest of their lives.  It's the entry level point of the academic support offerings of the JYBA.  Currently, the flow would be: Study skills program --> ACT Test prep program --> Navigating a Path to College workshop.  We want to positively affect our players in many different aspects of their lives, not just in basketball.  Coach Debevec has been a driving force in that effort and we've also had great support from the District Administration, Athletic Department and Guidance Department in developing the collaborations necessary to reach our goals."

What if you could:
  • Improve your note taking abilities
  • Manage your time better
  • Organize your academic life
  • Be more efficient in your test preparation
  • Eliminate cramming and last minute, late night studying
  • Reduce your stress
  • Improve your academic performance
  • Prepare yourself for a college workload
  • Get your parents off your back

Thankfully, you can do ALL of these things (and more) by signing up for the JYBA Study Skills program beginning in January 2014.

Cost for the 18 week program is $250 per student with the family contributing $175 and the JYBA subsidizing the rest.

Program is on a first come, first served basis so don't delay, space is limited.

The study skills program is limited to boys basketball players only with a priority given to upper classmen.  As the 'backlog' of upper classmen wishing to participate in the program is diminished, it will most likely settle in the 8th and 9th grade years.
